Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011
I just returned from another fun Meet and Greet in So. California and thought it might be nice to get some Sportsmobile folks together near Las Vegas in October. The Valley of Fire is very beautiful in October and would be a great place to meet. We will meet October 7-9 at Arch Rock Campground. I will arrive on Thursday, October 6 and reserve a camp site (by placing chairs at the site) for anyone who lets me know in advance they will be there. If we overflow Arch Rock campground I can also reserve sites at Atlatal Campground which is a short walk away.
Valley of Fire is gorgeous and has showers and flushing toilets (even has hookups) in Atlatal Campground and vault toilets (no showers) in Arch Rock Campground (where I prefer to go and there would be plenty of room for everyone). The two campgrounds are a short (10-15 minute) hike from each other or you could drive to the showers from Arch Rock Campground. Camping is $20 per night with no hook-up or $30 per night for electricity (at Atlatal only). V of F is 45 miles (an hour) from Vegas but is not too far if anyone wants to go see the sights in Vegas during the day or night. Valley of Fire is away from the city lights and the night sky is filled with billions of stars.
Remember, you could also visit Death Valley or Mojave Preserve on the front or back end of your trip if you are coming from California or Zion National Park or Snow Canyon if you are coming from Utah. If you are coming from Arizona you could see the Grand Canyon.
For those who like to Geocache, there are hundreds of caches near Valley of Fire and thousands of caches in and around Las Vegas. I have several caches that I have placed near both areas.
Hope to see you there.

We could fill all the available camping at Valley of Fire. It is a great spot.
In Vegas? Where?
Maybe we could do it when the Drag Races come to town in Oct 27-30?

Mac,
I'm always up for Valley of Fire - except in the summer of course.
Arch Rock. And you can still use the showers if you stay in this campground, you just have to walk or drive over to the other campground.
And later is better for me than earlier in the month.
And I'm open to other options.

Re: Meet and Greet Near Vegas in October
What's the average temp down there in October? I might be interested.
Been to Red Rock in December in 1990...no campground, just parked along a bumpy road. One of the coldest tent trips I've ever taken but really enjoyed it.

Re: Meet and Greet Near Vegas in October
The weather is always perfect in October. Beautiful sunny days. Temperature in upper 60s, 70s and sometimes low 80s. Usually no rain, no clouds, just lots of fun. However with El Nino or Nina the weather patterns can always be fickle. Like last year. We held our family reunion in our backyard in Vegas on October 16th. The temperature was in the 90s. We expected it to be in the mid 70s, which is the norm. So, if it's too hot, bring your boat and enjoy Lake Mead. If it's too cold, meaning in the 60's, bring your long sleeve shirt and enjoy the Fall weather. Either way, you can't beat the desert in October.

Re: Meet and Greet at Valley of Fire, October 7-9,2011
Since some people, like me, may need to plan your calendars many months in advance, I've made an executive decision and determined the Meet and Greet will be held at the Valley of Fire on October 7-9, 2011 at the Arch Rock Campground. I will arrive on Thursday, October 6 and reserve a camp site (by placing chairs at the site) for anyone who lets me know in advance they will be there. If we overflow Arch Rock campground I can also reserve sites at Atlatal Campground which is a short walk away.
