Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
I'm broken down in South Ogden in limp mode ( flashing OD light and U0155 CEL code). Anybody want to recommend a mechanic? Van is a 2006 E350 with a 6.0.

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
Check out this thread, also give advanced 4X4 a call, they prob have a suggestion for you, although you've now entered into a long holiday weekend, good luck, I can think of worse places to break down. Go for a hike in ogden canyon.

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
I've only used them for some simple work however there is usually a SMB or 2 parked in their lot getting work every week or so... try Crandall Ford up in Park City - it's about 50 mins or so from the Ogden area. Good Luck!

First thing to do is get someone to scan it!

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
Pardon the brevity, I'm posting on my phone...
Being a holiday weekend, pretty much no one was open. On Saturday I found an open Aamco who would scan it. Nothing surprising ("says its a communications failure.") but while it was on the lift to check for harness chafing, they found the fwd u-joint on the rear driveshaft was very close to failure. Rather than drive the van more (with erratic shifting), I'm having them replace the joint today. Then I'll drive across the street to the Ford dealer and see if they can diagnose with any more detail.
If the PCM really has failed again, something must be causing that so I need to track that down.
I did go DH biking at Snow Basin to pass some time though.

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
I would separate the Van and House electrical systems, disconnect the separator/ACR and leave radio to Van position. Also try to remember back to what if anything you had on from the house side, like were you running inverter or other features that you don't normally used. I blew up three PCM's (V10) in the first 6000 miles, the problem came from a loose wire on the house side.
Of course you may get lucky and the Ford Guys will find something on their side.

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
Are the batteries terminals (on both) clean and tight? Intermittent low voltage can cause the com failure code. But that also means high peak loads from the house system can cause it too, as Scalf77 hints at.
But then again.... a faulty harness isn't uncommon either.

Re: Diesel / transmission Mechanic recommendations in SLC?
Thanks guys.
So the symptoms appeared as I was just driving along, having been just driving along for the past 3 hours straight. No house loads were on besides the fridge, which is normal. AKIK the house and van electrical systems are separated (I can hear the separator click when it should and start assist wire is disconnected) and I never use that radio switch. Battery terminals should be square since I cleaned them when I replaced the batteries in March (I'll check though...).
When the first Ford dealer I went to hooked up the laptop, a bunch of "P" codes showed up that were never on the scan gauge. Weird stuff like "power reduced due to low fuel level". The tank hasn't been below 1/4 in the last few thousand miles. Unfortunately, the first place can't determine if the problem is electrical or the transmission because they don't have appropriate specialists.
The van is currently getting towed to another dealer with the right guys.
