Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
If you have a trailer with a tongue jack that sticks up, watch out for the clearance to the Aluminess box as the trailer articulates. My box lid now has a small dent...

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
I even have to be careful the trailer doesn't hit. Bummer

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
I used a 12" extension to clear the box. No problems...yet.

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
I'm not sure how that would do with the tongue weight I've got (the trailers wheels are at the back of it).
But not a bad idea, also would give better access to rear doors.

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
Good ideas! My existing draw bar is 9.5" from pin to ball, I found this one which looks good:
this one is 16", 600lb tongue, 1" rise/2" drop
http://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/Hid ... 80232.html
but it will lower my tongue weight from 800lb to 600lb. I'm not even sure what my tongue weight is..... wonder how you measure that loaded.
here's another, 13.25" long, 750lb tongue
http://www.etrailer.com/Ball-Mounts/Brophy/BM20.html
This is my trailer:

Ironically my 16' car trailer probably has less tongue weight (dual axle....) it is just odd how far back the wheels are. It is loaded up with astronomy equipment.

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
My Reunel bumper swing outs created the same problem, on my camper trailer, I had to move the propane tanks back on the tongue and I still lost a good chunk of turning radius. I always need to make sure I end up with the van and trailer lined up close to straight (Not always so easy at campsites) so the trailers tongue jack handle does not hit the swing outs.

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
Another option is a rotating/folding trailer jack I guess.

Here is a good way to measure tongue weight...

Re: Aluminess deluxe box and towing clearance
If you end up with a really long extension (either by hitch extender or extra long ball mount) then don't forget the 7-wire connector extension, if needed. Basically, this is just an extension cord. So, something like this:
http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Draw-Tite/20027.html
Mine is slightly different and shorter, I bought it from eTrailer. The last thing you want is to have it unplugged because of a tight turn.
