Re: 6.0 vs. 7.3 powerstroke for a 4x4 conversion

good info guys thanks.
it sounds like the 7.3 is the way to go. i dont need power seeing how im converting over to american vans from an old air cooled vw bus. i just want to go on long trips with out stopping after mountain passes to let the bus cool off.

If that is all the power you want, you could go with a gas engine and save a bunch of bucks.

If MPGs are more important than power, look for one with 3.55 gears.

Re: 6.0 vs. 7.3 powerstroke for a 4x4 conversion

Here is a video from this morning. On my stopwatch while watching the video, I'm seeing about 7.3 seconds. This is the first time I've tried checking since my van gained 1200 pounds (bumpers, Buskstop guard, winch, jerry cans +tools...), so it's a little slower than it used to be.

This was on a cold transmission. Engine was barely warm. This was also not at full throttle (~90%) since I don't like to push it too hard when the trans is cold. This was also on 87 octane. Fully warmed up with 92-octane and a more aggressive tune should drop a couple tenths. Also no power braking. That would drop the time as well.

I also have the shift points (only 1-2 is used for 0-60) set a little conservative (5200 RPM) compared to what I could do. Later this month I'll raise them further, and also try stacking the Banks chip in conjunction with the Predator.
