Ron,

That’s the horn set I installed.

If you want to hear them in person jump in your van and come on by! We can do a true side-by-side comparison.

I installed a set of Hella horns earlier this year. They have made a world of difference.

This reminds me, I still need to paint the mounting bracket that I had to fab up for the second horn.

Mark,

Nice work! I was happy when Laura liked the sound of the PIAA’s best because I thought they might be easier to install. I like your bracket, but I was able to configure my install without digging out the chop saw, grinder or welder!

Are those the Hella Sharptone’s? If so, 415 and 350 Hz at 115 dB(A), very comparable to the PIAA’s I installed.

I had identified the same problem/solution, with one minor deviation. Namely, I had assumed I would use the factory wiring to control a relay and wire the horns directly the battery. I had heard that this is the only way to get the full potential volume from them. Thoughts?

Snowy,

Yours is a true statement if you want to install something with a large power draw, namely an air horn with a built in compressor, that pulls more than the 15 amps available on the existing circuit. (Note that there are other draws on that same circuit, do your homework if you want to push it.). I purposefully selected a horn where this wasn’t an issue as I wanted to plug directly into the existing circuit without adding a new relay and the associated wiring. Very happy with my decision.

There is a member here who added the relay and the air horn plus a selector switch so he can toggle back and forth between stock and “impressively attention getting” based on need/desire, but I chose to go the simpler route. He likes his, I like mine, win-win.

Fitz,

Yes, they are the Hella Sharptones. They had the sound that Karen liked best and they are night and day better than the original.

It looks like the mounting options were a little different between our two Sprinters. We didn't have the vertical plastic piece that you used to mount the second horn.

Friz,
Like your set up. What type of wiring harness did you use? DIY or prebuilt? If prebuilt please give information if available. Thks

Bear,

Strictly DIY. I cut the stock MB connector off and went from there with crimp-on connectors and heat shrink. I tried to source the MB connector on-line (and ended up with the wrong connector), looking back it wasn’t worth the trouble.

Flint’s Christmas Present

John and the guys at Agile just installed a 14 gallon passenger’s side fuel tank on Flint. We just drove up to Pismo Beach, pictures and a few details to follow when I can get to a place with a better signal.

Tim,

Nice! Looking forward to your pictures and thoughts on the work @ Agile. I think you're going to love having that extra tank.
