Re: 2008 (New 2010) Bigfoot Truck Camper 25C10.6E -Oregon

That is exactly what I considered doing as well. When I had my Sporty, I went through and re-did much of the suspension and front axle short-comings. So much so that I figure I can do an E series conversion myself. However, I could not find the right BF RV at the right price. I needed to keep it within 10 yrs old, for credit union purposes, and the prices some were asking were well in excess of high book value, so I gave up. The best ones for the conversion were, in my opinion, the few Kodiak Dmax/Allison based units that they produced, but holy smokes, the owners of the few I found were extremely proud of them (to the tune of $20K +/- over high book value). The one thing I learned about Sporty ownership is that I preferred a truck chassis over a van chassis for conversion ease and engine access. I can't understand why more RV builders don't start with a 4x4 chassis for their RV builds. Okay, I think I know why, but still. Even if not rock crawling around Moab or crossing the Serengeti, , people still could use 4x4 when going up the mountain, pulling a boat out of river on a slippery ramp, getting a little too close to the sandy beach, or sometime just trying to get across a muddy horse pasture, etc. Anywho, please do a BF RV conversion! I would love to see it and I think it makes tons of sense since their shells are as bombproof as anything out there.

Another thing about TPD trailers (yes, I know I've hijacked my own thread...again), they are so strong the roof doubles as an observation deck. Can't do that with your usual enclosed trailer.

As I was installing removable cycle chocks (yes, that's a built-in Craftsman tool chest under the workbench):

Haha, highjack away! its your thread I agree fully on what you said about 4wd, i've never been crawling with the SMB but have actually needed getting out of campsites after it started raining and out of sandy camp spots in moab, so for those rare times, im still thankful i have it.
Below are pics i found a while back of a BF motorhome and i keep them around to remind me of the next family rig to build

That TPD trailer looks very very well built! and to have a workbench, specific tool chest location is awesome!

That is awesome! I like that shorter size without slides. The only less than 29' ones I was finding only had slides. Those 19.5s look impressive, but don't fit well up front and, if not needed, that fella ought to have stuck with something a little more common like 17s. I have 19.5s and at around $350 a tire, I half wish I could go with 17s.

Okay, back on track. Someone buy my camper! I'll even fudge on the price a little (but I'll keep the fastguns for the future).

Seems their site is retooling until tomorrow. To save the suspense, each panel is of monolithic composite construction, combined with a tube steel frame, so that's why they are so strong, but heavy. Unlike most other trailers, you can pressure wash them out! I was going to insulate it, sheath the inside with white marker board, and install a pair of removable goucho couch/beds for the kids on long sections of Ancra A-track (what I have on the floor). With he new RV, I don't really need to do that now, except having it warm for team races, with couches, would be nice:

Nice setup. We went with a travel trailer we tow now. We can unhook it and explore with tow rig when at destination. Super comfy and plush and roomy compared to the Sportsmobile. The kids love it and we have been camping at the ski mountain every weekend almost and it does great. Much more room than the van in these conditions and 4 people.

Have you tried to post on RV.net open roads forum? They have a truck camper section.
