Wow, thanks for that offer! High winds tore our 8-9 yr-old awning recently, which still seems solid, but it's obviously weakened an unlikely to withstand much more wind. It isn't possible to just stitch up the tear, I never really expected the tape to hold long, and it's basically not clear to me how to fix this. Maybe cut all the way across starting at the end of the tear, open up the fabric mount/clamp somehow, remove the cut-off remnant fabric, and reclamp on a then-shorter awning? Just not clear how to do the un- and re-clamping of the fabric. If so, maybe no parts are required? Any suggestions would be most welcome.

deanhend - you will have a bit of a challenge at the end of the fabric:

"The fabric has a polycord at each end to attach it into the lead bar and fabric tube, which is a small round rubber tube that the fabric is heat sealed around."

This video link has a pretty good demo of what you would have to address:

If you were to salvage the fabric you will have find a way to re-adhere the newly cut clean fabric edge around the rubber tube (or welt cord) to feed back into the track on the outer panel. Certainly seems feasible but does the effort outweigh just buying a new fabric??

Thanks a bunch for those details and link! Given the fabric price range you provided, I'm thinking I'll try to live with it for a while and try to be careful about keeping a close eye on winds and weather forecasts.
