Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
August 12, 2010 my son and I headed out for The Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week. The whole trip went well. We were gone for ten days. Spent five days on the salt with friends, watching the fast cars and relaxing. We also did four wheeling on Silver Island and northwest Nevada.
I have lots of pictures on my website: http://www.beckersminerals.com/pages...week_menu.html
Now I am trying to figure where to next.
Woody
P.S. Silver Island is a great place to do off road camping. Places a 2 wheel drive can get into and if you want more privacy you can 4 wheel in.

Re: Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
Very cool photo documentary. Thanks for the pics!
A couple of questions;
Are some of the vehicles being pushed from behind to get up to starting speed?
What were the daytime temps out on the flats?

Re: Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
Good morning Ed,
Happy you enjoyed the picts.
Yes, because of the high gearing, some of the vehicles have up to a mile they can be pushed before they can pull away from the push vehicle. After the first mile they start announcing the speeds, 1 1/4 mile they give a 1/4 mile speed.
As for the speeds, "Got Salt" hit 407 mph on a five mile run.

Fantastic trip -- great photos. Thanks for sharing! As you might already know, I love exploring that area, especially the desolate 4x4-only nooks.

And so many of them.
I was surprised out of the hundreds of RVers that were camped at the turn in the road, I would have thought more of them would have been camping out on Silver Island. There were only a few.

Re: Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
I went to the Speed week 2yrs ago. It was great, I really love the way you can stand right at the starting line. We brought Dirt bikes and road to the north forever and never saw another living soul i love that. Great fun.
Looks like you had a great time aswell.
Thanks for the pictures

Re: Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
I will be going back next year.
What surprised me was I never seen another SMB out on the salt.
Hope to see more SMB's next year.

Re: Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah___Speed Week
There were a lot of motorcycles, bicycles and even motorized bar stools. A jeep that had a picnic tent built on it and many other motorized inventions. A lot of neat things to see.

I saw one (and only one) when I was out there in 2007. A silver RB from CA.
