Refreshing this post with some updated information:

Campground concessionaire for San Juan National Forest, along with San Isabel and parts of Pike, is Rocky Mountain Recreation Company. For fall closures the Pike Natl Forest high country (around Leadville) plus Bridge campground in San Juan close the week after Labor Day. Most others stay open with facilities for two or three weeks into September. After that some lower campgrounds remain available without facilities (or fees?) into the late fall as accessible.

Trevor and Cheri at Rocky Mountain Recreation were helpful contacts for campground info. Cheri is the regional manager and knows each of the San Juan facilities in detail.

For bike routes Durango Wheel Club is the local cycling club and has a variety of road bike routes, along with a few gravel rides, on their website. Ride With GPS site also has a wide variety of local routes with turn-by-turn GPS directions.

There are several cycling clubs in Durango. Recently a new website has been created that attempts to consolidate all the rides onto one calendar. It's early days, but they've made a good attempt so far. Check out PedalDurango.com

Lime Creek Rd (FS 591?). If you can get your van there. You might have to winch a few boulders out of the way on the way down to the river where the good sites are, about halfway around the loop.

Locals here can tell you when the snow starts.

* Try going to Silverton via Molas Pass and then from Silverton out to Cunningham Gulch. I mostly coyote camp in this area.*

Do I need to bring O2 ? j/k
