new member making a trip from georgia to idaho 11/19-11/25.
we will be landing in atlanta and a friend from another forum is taking us to augusta and we are starting the drive from there. looking to see if anybody wants to meet up on our way home. would love to meet a member or two on the journey home. Im trying to see as many smb's as possible to try and get ideas and talk to the owners to bounce ideas and gather imput before i start my build.
we are taking i24 to i70 to denver and staying with some family for a few nights in evergreen co. from there we are taking i25 up to wyoming hitting some hotsprings just across the boarder then continuing on to idaho falls via i80 and route 26 to stay with other family for a few days, then on to boise on i84.
ive talked with derik at ccv and am really hoping to cross paths with him while im in the colorado area if possible.
would also love to hear from smb owners in the idaho area and get on any mailing lists there may be for meets/get togethers. like i say, im completly new to this smb thing and id love to meet some fellow entheusists.
ill do a intro thread soon when i have some pix to post. as of the last 5 months ive lurked around here and the amount of endless incredible ideas for these builds is just amazing. some seriously ingenious people on these forums and i will definatly benefit from those of you that have taken the time to share your pix and writeups.
i realize its a holiday week and most of you will be entertaining family etc, but if anyone is willing to take a few minutes to shoot the shit (sometimes its nice to have an out when inlaws are in town, lol), id really appreciate it. if not no biggie and i wont take offence if everyones busy, but if you can take a few seconds to reply and make suggestions of things we should check out along the way, im all ears.
tia and i look forward to being part of this community!

Re: new member making a trip from georgia to idaho 11/19-11/
Well good to meet ya Shenrie! I'm near Atlanta (sort of), but I won't be in town for the holiday myself. I'm running over to Memphis to be with family and since we won't see them at Christmas, I don't think I'll have a free moment even though you will basically be coming through there. Perhaps another time!
It's great that you are throwing this out, I've got another member I've never met meeting up with me and camping in my driveway the week after Thanksgiving. It's a pretty cool way to get to know folks if you just shout out where you're travelling and when.
Be safe and have a Happy Holiday!
p.s. I know Derek and just FYI, he's about 1.5 hrs north of Denver. Just lettin' you know it's not like he's right there, but a great guy and a good stop if you can get up to Loveland.

I'm a couple hours east of Augusta but out of the way. If you decide to take a side trip towards Myrtle Beach let me know.

Re: new member making a trip from georgia to idaho 11/19-11/
^^^ if i wasnt strapped for time/cash, id have no problem taking the long way to stop by. really wish we had more time for this journey to do some exploring as neither the wife or I have any time logged past our surrounding states, but we gotta stay on route. appreciate the offer though!
86scotty, thanks for the offer, and I completly understand you wont be around. I fgured that would be the case for most everyone. just at least wanted to try in case the option was available.
ive been extending out with the forums for about 10 years and have met some really fun people. more or less in the nw, but have "forum" buddies all along the west coast now. so this was a no brainer, however how late i posted it was dumb, lol. I was gonna wait to officially join till I had something to take pictures of, but one of the other members here from my area had some great pix that I had to comment on.
were actually meeting a friend face to face that ive been talking to online since around 05. hes actually taking us to augusta so we dont have to sit in the airport for 3.5 hours waiting for a 30 min flight. then were following him back to his place where hes donating some hard to find parts for one of our racecars. hes a legend on the forum where i met him for some of his unique builds. so its really cool to get to finally meet him.
either way, i appreciate the warm wecome and look forward to meeting some like minded people when the oppertunity arises.
oh, and i did know derek is quite a ways away. he actually said he might be going through evergreen depending on how his plans pan out and might be able to stop by and show me his setup. he seems like a really cool guy. of all the places ive called, we was definitly the most helpfull and 100% willing to share info and has offered to help however he can with my project.

Re: new member making a trip from georgia to idaho 11/19-11/
Well im most the way home now. Just 3.5 hours left today and our journey will be over.
Left atlanta around 11pm monday, and got to evergreen colorado about 8pm tuesday. Dont know how i stayed awake. stayed there till friday and headed to drake co. to meet up with derek of ccv. very cool and helpfull gent. I highly recommend him and not just for his badass conversion, but for his willingness to take the time out for his customers...even guys like me that havent spent a cent with him yet.
Got back on the road and took a scenic route derek recommended up 287 then across 130. Even had my first sportsmobile sighting. A blue eb e350 passenger with the spare and accessories on the back. dude even waved even though im not modded yet. Then we stopped at saratoga hotsprings. Cool place and very hot water. Now we are in idaho falls and will be heading out after breakfast for our last leg. Definitly looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and start modding our new van

So you took the route through Centennial? 130 is one beautiful drive. I did it in June a few years back.

Re: new member making a trip from georgia to idaho 11/19-11/
^^^ yep, and it was awesome. thanks again to derek for the suggestion. one of the most scenic spots on our trip. there was just a tad more snow that in the pic you got. im sure ther were better sights on our journey, but it was dark for a lot of it. bums me out we didnt have more time to explore, but we will do that once our van gets some ammenities
we are home now and very happy with our purchase. the van was flawless on our 2600 mile journey. im really excited to start working on it, but actually have to use it as a pu for the next week moving motors and car parts to and from getting ready for our next rallyx. after that, i look forward to starting our build
