Yosemite, Mammoth, Alabama Hills this week?

Anyone headed to this area this week? We are thinking about it!

I'll be interested to hear how you find the crowds at the Alabama hills if you go. Hopefully now that family's have kids back in school it wont be the zoo it was in the summer.

Just got back. Fall colors were great. I was at the A Hills on a Saturday, and everyone was there in all the places. Up around Lundy, Dunderberg and Green Creek during the week there was plenty of space. Air quality might not be the best.

Didn't BLM institute some new camping rules or restrictions at Alabama Hills recently?

Just went through there for the last week. Don’t miss the to Chidago Canyon Road or the bristle cone forest. Camping at Benton Hot Springs is good, but requires a reservation. On the north side of lone pine, right at the collection of “the rotary club, etc, welcomes you” signs and across from a police sub station is the approximate spot Ansel Adams took his winter sunrise picture. Pretty cool if you’re into that and an early riser.

Just returned from Bishop Creek yesterday.
I was shocked at the number of people in the canyon.
Fall colors are over for the most part.
Canyon was loaded with people and people with children (fishing).
Several campgrounds open and very few campers so most are day people fron the valley below.
Fewer people in the Lone Pine/Alabama Hills area.
Area motels seem to be doing very well many with full/no vacancy signs.
$10 dry camp at Bishop casino.
Enjoy.......I love the Sierra's. Grew up camping there from childhood until old-hood.
I still go, I still wonder at their magnificence but I have changed and it's not the Sierra's I grew up with or is it just the people.
2003 E350 SMB, EB50 4X4, 7.3 295,000 and adding more........next trip accepting recommendations. HighCountryMike
