Re: 4" Turbo back Exhaust installed on a 7.3L

If they did that in TX it would wipe out 50% of the landscaping business !

Just a word to the wise for you California diesel van owners.

It's one of the prices some of us have to pay when we live within two or three hours of civilization....

Not that living within 2 or 3 hours of civilization is necessarily a good thing...

vlamgat - Bill programmed the chip to lock out the torque converter differently than the stock settings, but I'm not sure what those settings/ratios are. He has some specific towing programs very extreme towing. You might want to check it out.

Thank you for the intel. You are the first person I have heard of on this or the PSD forum that has been able to reprogram the 7.3 ECU to change shift points. Lots of remap capability out there most of which we cannot use because we have no wastegate or intercooler but it takes serious ECU program skill to change shift points on these older units.

Do you have a number for Bill?

Seems that if he did reprogram your chip he is not admitting to it:

Certainly as an end user mod. My guess is that they have to reflash the entire chip and to do that you have to snd yours to them. Probably 3 or 4 time until they get it right!

May drop in some day when I am heading East.

Re: 4" Turbo back Exhaust installed on a 7.3L

Not sure what that thread reference was supposed to say with respect to this thread which, is largely about chips and trannies. That reference is about tranny temps. I had seen it on a prior research mission and absolutley categorically reject its conclusions which amongst others are: stick to dino fluid for transmissions; and wrapping exhausts pipes and/or turbos reduces EGT.

There is no science in either of those conclusions. And from experience and logic the opposite applies.

Still looking for someone who has changed their shift points on a 7.3. There is no need for lock up to wait until 55 plus. I understand why it should not go below (say) 45 mph but bruning oil to get to 55 is a waste.
