Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

I made my ladder out of 3/4" thin wall conduit and joined it with 80,000 psi silver bronze brazing rod.

My drill press jig for cutting conduit to shape

Test joint fit

practice braze

first bends

assembly

cut to size, painted and installed

top hook attachment method - ladder assembles snug to van

VERY nice Len! I like the mounting location and makes me think I could just use the tire as the first step like this. Keeps it simple, clean, and out of the way. I like the griptape on the rungs too.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

In hind sight. I would cut the griptape about 1" shorter on each end of the rungs. Sliding my hands down the sides of the ladder I have sanded the skin of both hands. Keeping the area free of sand paper where hands could slide would be good idea.

Got the 3M griptape at my local ACE hardware for $0.79 a foot.

LenS ,
If you do remove the the 3M Tape at some point in time to shorten the width , be sure to take a pair of heavy duty scissors and cut a radius on each end . By doing this you will prevent the corners from lifting and prolong the life of your application .

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Replaced my Blue Sea ACR, Blue Sea was extremely helpful during the diagnostics process and sent a replacement unit free of charge. Install was straight forward. Also, installed the Smart Light 1000 motion sensor outdoor LED, seems to work well, now just wait for dark.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

I was about to black out the motion indicator (blinking blue light) on my Smart Light 1000 motion sensor outdoor LED and discovered that the plastic white covers on each end were cracked / broken, looks like the sun attacked the plastic. With just a gentle touch both just crumbled in my hand. NOT happy, not considering what they cost and are less than three years old..

I'll report back on their customer service...

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

1: Replaced the fluorescent bulbs in two of the cabin lights with LED strips that have been recommended on the forum. Easy and works great.

2: Replaced clunky rattletrap cooktop with a slick SMEV Eye-talian unit that has piezo starting and won't let propane from the burners unless they are lit.

Had to shorten the back of the drawer to clear the regulator and hoses

3: Added a shelf in my deluxe box to carry firewood with the generator

The generator will soon be converted to run on LP. The rig has a huge propane tank that is only supplying the cooktop. Hopefully, this should lead to a much cleaner running generator as this thing really stinks when it's running.

Hey Z, did you connect the piezo starter to the house battery? I have the same model SMEV and love it, but SMB did not hook up electric to the electronic starter...

I'm just wondering whether or not I should have this done.

thx

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Added some heat shielding material to the AC lines (and heat lines since the lines run parallel to each other) running from the front of the SMB back to the rear AC system. Theses AC lines run within 3" of the exhaust header on the diesel engine, so that can't be good. It was a monumental pain to install the stuff with so many obstructions, tie-offs, dirt, grease, grime, sharp corners... I wasn't able to cover as much of the lines as possible, but I hit the areas I thought were most critical.

Used metal ties to add extra security to the wrap to make sure it doesn't come off. It had to be installed in pieces, with a few cutouts to go around mounting points. Also added a bit of the material where the lines run under the bottom of the radiator area. With all the variables, I'm not sure if I'll be able to report whether there was an improvement or not.
