I did this. It "helped" that upon closer inspection I noticed that the start battery was a Group 24 and not the properly fitting Group 65. So I wanted to buy a new battery anyway (Group 24 contacted the hood!). That made it slightly less painful to up it to an AGM since I was buying a new battery anyway.
(My rig had belonged to an "old guy" PO and had been stored for the last year or so while he got to the point of admitting no more driving at his age; then the grandkids went to sell it and clearly just put in whatever batteries were easiest/cheapest at the point of sale.)
A side note is that during the replacement process, I noticed that the negative cable of the battery harness was slightly broken just before the starter connection (it makes a bend there, and the insulation had cracked longitudinally exposing wire which was now green). I re-did that at the same time as putting in the new battery, so not sure which did it, but the starter suddenly got much "perkier" sounding (faster). Not that I had ever noticed anything wrong before - it had seemed fine. Anyway, something other "E-folks" might want to check. This was on a 1998 gas E-350.
