Re: Let there be light

I picked up a Laser thermometer from Harbor Freight for $26.99 last week.

http://www.harborfreight.com/non-contac ... 96451.html

I see it is $39.99 in that ad. Maybe the sale was in store only. Or maybe it is over.

I plan on checking wheel bearings, u-joints, etc. after a long or hard drive. Hopefully, I will find parts going out before I get stranded.

Mike

Re: Let there be light

Numerous Lazer Thermometers of quality are available from Amazon , some are less expensive than the Harbor Freight units

Re: Let there be light

Update on the light project

I finally got everything wired this morning. All the lights actually work, knock on wood. I did have a couple of surprises.

1-If you see a dual 87 hella relay with one of the 87 posts marked 87a don't be surprised if it doesn't work like you expect a normal dual 87 relay to work. The 87a post is wired directly to the 30 (hot) post and gives you a way to piggy back power to another relay. Don't be tempted to use them even if the pretty blue color looks better than the regular dual 87 relays you bought for the project.

2-The 15A fuses Hella supplies with each of their 4000i hid lights might work well for one light but when you run 3 lights on a single circuit plan on using a 25A fuse. Trust me on this one, 20A fuses last a second or two longer than a 15A but that's about it.

I'll be spending some time tonight aiming the lights. Then it's on to the next wiring project. A dash switch for the Detroit E-locker that is going to be installed early next week.

Re: Let there be light

I tested the lights out last night on the way home from work. I am extremely pleased with the performance of the Hella 4000i HID's. I still need to fine tune the adjustment but those things are insanely bright. The Hella 500FF Fogs put out a nice wide flat yellow fog beam that should would well in the fog. They are yellow due to the 100W Yellow Star bulbs I replaced the stock bulbs with. They do not add much when the high beams and the HID's are on but that's not their function and I didn't really expect them to. They do add a little light when I'm just running the low beams. The fogs are wired so I can run them with the headlights off for those really nasty whiteout due to snow night drives.

After seeing the pictures of Angel's melted Light Force lights I decided to set up the wiring so the lights can only be turned on when the ignition or the high beams are on. Both sets of lights are set up on a 3 way toggle switch so they will run on either the high beam circut or an ingition hot circut.
