Simple Alarm System?

I'm interested in a very simple alarm system and most of what I've seen on Sportsmobile are more elaborate than what I need. I don't need autostart, de-mobilization, etc. I just want something with the flashing LED (so they know it's alarmed) that will sound the horn if someone tries to break in.

My van (2005 E350, V10) isn't high value and I won't have a lot of expensive stuff inside. I'm mainly interested in an alarm system as a deterrent to a nuisance break-in (kids?) when it's in my driveway, which is where it is 95% of the time.

Recommendations?

I would put up a high intensity motion detector light on your house and/or motion detector with a bell in your home to make you aware of trespass. I would think that the light would be more attention grabbing than a led. You said inexpensive, so a dog may be extravagant.

That's a good idea. I have a motion detecting light above my garage door but, at least until I sell my pickup, the van is at the road end of a sloped driveway and beyond the range of the motion detector. I'll have to try an alternate mounting location and, if it works, put up a second light. I think I'd forego the bell since I don't want to confront anyone, I'd rather scare them away without my ever knowing they were there.

I'd still like an alarm for daytime.

I've been using an alarm by Crime Guard, their model 350i but sadly its been discontinued---good thing I bought several and kept them waiting to be installed.

These by Code Alarm seem to be close in features and program ability, not a lot of stuff you might never use: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220CA1...rm-CA1055.html. I link to Crutchfield only because they're one of the better online retailers of such automotive gear.

These "low end" type systems tend to be very easy to install. Once the "brain" is placed securely the only real wiring is connecting the trigger to the dome light, finding an always on power source, tap into an ignition on hot source (ie; radio) mount/wire the siren, tap into the parking lights circuit, test, arm and you're good to go.

Here's the wiring manual, last two pages: https://pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/Im.../220CA1055.PDF

Garage
Maybe some kind of dog alarm like the STI Rex-II? I know they will shoot through a wood door. Maybe they will shoot through a covered window.

Thanks everyone but, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards North40's advice.
