Re: Flash lights
Whenever possible it would be very useful to actually see and physically try the lights that you are interested in ! Don't base your purchasing decision on claimed Lumens because of at least three different means of measurement for Lumens in the lighting industry . The type of light , color of light and most important the means of projection . I have a couple of small Cree Technology based lights that have 1/3 rd of the Lumen rating of some larger lights that have nearly twice the useable reflctive range , all because of the the Len's used . LED's done correctly are an amazing technology .

Re: Flash lights
Digging up an old thread but I'm replacing my work belt light and I thought I would reread it.
I'm not going this direction, but if you didn't watch the link above where the guy lights paper with the Torch light, you should. Pretty damn amazing, even if it does only last 5 minutes per charge. Hopefully that thing has lower settings for more practical uses and runtimes

Re: Flash lights
On the other end of the scale, I've recently upgraded my headlamp again. This time I finally got one that also has some red LEDs. For just a bit of extra light in the dark without blinding yourself or those around you, I'm a big fan.

Re: Flash lights
I thought I might mention one crazy bright spotlight at a good price. Wal-mart carries a Stanley spot light HID. They have one that is not HID that looks the same, so be careful. It is the Stanley HID0109. It is such a beast I don't pack it in the van, but I use it with a shoulder strap for search and rescue in the mountains.

Yep, love mine too. I have had great luck with the Energizer ones off Amazon. They come with batteries and are fairly cheap. The 5 function red/white ones I got for everyone's stocking at Christmas. The kids love em but they aren't sensitive and always blind me (looking right at me) so I stay on them to just use the red most of the time. That keeps from disturbing other campers too.
