The downside is they look to be speced for the single handed tradesman.
Her Nibs occupies the right hand seat and would object to the stanchion.
I need to come up with something that rigs off the dash.

Agreed however my Ms Nibbs realizes my work van is just that so she'd be partially content with something in that space. Also Ram Mounts has bases that would allow us to relocate the upright stanchions to the rear of the passenger or driver's seat which might be a more suitable installation?
Ideally I could/would have something retracting from slightly behind and between the stock seat backs, hinged so it folds downward to rest on the stock console. Since the laptop would be used for very short periods it would spend most of its time on the van stowed away.
Wanderer and I will meet up this week and his device will be a great beginning on whatever path I eventually take.
More on this developing story as it unfolds!
