Propane tank WWYD?

I tore up my running board due to a small boulder hidden by a shrub. I donít really care about the running boards. I took off the one on the passenger side already and replaced with hoop steps. I just kept this one on because of the propane tank. I knew the board wasnít going to be strong enough to stop damage to it, but would serve as an early warning, which it did splendidly.

So now I am going to take off the rest of the board, but Iím wondering about the exposed tank. Itís too wide to move further under the vehicle because it is right up against the frame. The controls are a little under the van and the right edge of the box sticks out just slightly. I can get a smaller tank, but Iíd like to avoid that cost right now.

What have others done? Should the tank be further under the van? Has anyone had something welded on to protect it? Do you think itís fine as-is?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Our old van tank looked about like that. The newer vans are higher off the ground. Your actually looks pretty good!

You can get it a bit higher with the Sportsmobile access door, but that would be a lot of work and cost for a couple inches of clearance.

Maybe get bigger tires?

Thanks for the info. I'll keep it as is and try not to bang it up too much!

Swap the tank into a 4x4 van with a minimum 4" lift...

Run that one by SWAMBO first.

Haha, wish I could. Weldtech offers a nice lift for old vans but its a little out of my range.
