1995 Dometic 3 way fridge - whats cold?

I'm just getting to know my first SMB, a 1995 Ford 250 EB, I've only had it about a month now.
It has a Dometic 3 way frig that was not working on Propane so we had it cleaned and now is getting cold.
While camping we ran it on propane last weekend and overnight it was 40 - 50 outside, on first opening the fridge in the morning the temperature in it was 35. (we got a temperature gauge hanging in it)
But as the day warms up (about 80 last weekend) the fridge temp rose to about 50 degrees.
Is this normal?
I have no experience with RV / SMB fridges so I don't know what to expect.
Granted its a 20 year old fridge - but it seems that it should stay colder?
Any thought / advice would be appreciated.

my dometic worked a little better after I burped it. this involves turning it upside down for a day.
I'm not sure what this does but it helped the dismal cooling powers of the dometic.

My old three way refrig never was very good when the heat went over 75. The best it could do was 35-40 below ambient. And above 85 it pretty much stopped cooling. It was great in the winter.

I certainly like my Norcold much better.

Had a feeling this was as good as it gets but wanted to check.
