Overlander from Switzerland looking for 4x4

Hello all,
I'm Dave from Zurich, Switzerland. My girlfriend and me are overlanding and offroad-travel enthusiasts. Our current vehicle of choice is a 2001 Jeep XJ. We love this Jeep and ist simplicity to perform selfrepairs of any kind. But as there is a growing Wish for longer and further travels, so we start looking for a bigger rig.
So i hope i can find here lots of Information about 4x4 converted vans.

cheers Dave

Hi Dave, or should I say Grüezi!

Welcome to the forum. I spent the summer of 1975 working at a small graduate school in Rüschlikon. I spent a lot of time in Zürich and got to see most of Schwiiz. It is a country that I greatly enjoy. I returned with my wife for a couple of weeks in 1989.

There are a number of vehicles available to you in Europe that cannot be brought to the United States due to the expensive crash testing that is required. I will spend some time going through my records and post again here as I locate them.

One that comes to mind at the moment is Hymer, which builds on true four wheel drive Mercedes Sprinters with locking differentials. Sprinters with locking differentials are not available in the US, only limited slip differentials.

Will try to post more soon. Again, welcome!
Tom

Here's the Hymer 4x4 lineup. There are four versions.

Action Mobil is based in Austria. Their vehicles tend to be large and very expensive:

Unicat is in Germany:

Another possibility is to keep your Jeep, but import and and tow an Adventure Trailer. Built for rugged off road use, these can go almost anywhere the Jeep can go.

Action Camper fits on the back of a Jeep, but I do not know if your Jeep is a compatible fit:
