Missoula Camping Spot

Hello!

My girlfriend is in Missoula for a few days and is looking for a good campsite. Preferably in public lands, not an RV park.

Anyone know a good spot? Feel free to reply here or message me.

Lolo national forest is to the west but a ways off the highway. Rattlesnake to the north and east is recreation and not camping.

I've camped west of Missoula out at Ninemile and found it to be enjoyable.

Garage
I'm not familiar with the area, but you might try the ioverlander and boon docking apps.

Hit up forum member Marcel Houjser. He lives in the areas and knows it quite well.

Hello,

We live in Missoula. Not sure if she needs to come into town every day and what that means for travel distance. A bit further from town means more opportunities of course. Look for Forest Service lands, e.g.:

1. along Hwy 12 to Lolo Pass, About 1 hr from Missoula is Lolo Pass (right now the blue camas is in bloom in Packer meadows, less than 1 mi behind visitor center on the pass... tons of beautiful sites there)
2. west side of Bitterroot Valley (west of US Hwy 93 South) has some nice FS campgrounds, but you can also find your own spot along FS roads.
3. Along Blackfoot river NE of Missoula and in Greenough area
4. along Rock Creek (26 mi east of Missoula, head south along creek)
5. Ninemile (30 min west of Missoula, then north)

Do make sure you take all precautions for bears... leave no food or trash out or accessible. We have both species in the area, grizz is now also increasingly seen south of I90.

good luck!
