I recently redid the tank on the Pleasure-Way Traverse that I sold a few months ago. It had a good bit of surface rust, like most that I have seen. I was going to remove and sandblast it, but some elbow grease with a wire wheel cleaned it up really well, and then several top coats of gray paint made it look really nice.

Update on this project. Have put the tank on the back burner (no pun intended) because the cold weather up here in North Idaho is preventing paint stripping and painting so moved on to other projects including replacing coils and plugs, swapping out batteries, adding 3 stage charger, serpentine belt and led light conversation and more. Will report on progress and finished product when done.
