While it must be nice to have bums pick up your trash, I'm happy to live where there are no bums. Becoming somewhat off an oddity 'out west' these days.

Usually when I have something like that to get rid of I can put it on marketplace or craigslist for free and someone will come grab it.

Our transfer station accepts fridges as long as they are empty and the door is off.
No, I'm right up against the mountains on the east side of the state. The mountains break up the storms. There has only been one odd tornado here in about 30 years I think. That is a problem over in flat country, western to middle TN mostly. We have nothing here, no floods, no tornados, little snow, lots of rain.

We have a phenomenal city sanitation/recycling system which picks up everything from the street, including appliances. They won't touch tires though. Just about every neighborhood around here has a place where a majority of folks put their bulk/junk items. In my case about 5-6 neighbors all put stuff in the same spot, a spot not directly in front of any one individual's home, and the city picks up that pile monthly on a schedule. We put out our junk a day or two before they run.

As for bums I was mostly kidding. There are lots of metal recycling yards in this part of the country and a every town has a few individuals who run around in their pickups with trailers and grab anything made of metal and worth a dollar or two from the piles before the city gets them. Personally I sell my metal scrap myself.

My folks live in AR and have tornadoes all around them, never where they're at. It's real hilly and they think that has something to do with it.

I drove thru north central TN in November 2021, there had just been a big flood, it was a mess.

I used to have a repair shop in town, we would have 'scrappers' stop by occasionally and ask to rummage thru our recycle bins. I made the mistake of saying yes once. They took alot of stuff and gave me a decent amount of cash, but they left a huge mess. Outside of that one incident I just have the recycle co pick it up. We typically had pickups twice a year at 5-8000#. I don't think I ever got more than $400.

Now I just pile it in one of the lesser used out-buildings until I get around to making a run to the recycle yard. It's about 80 miles so I haven't done it yet.
