I just picked up a 2006 SMB RB50 E350. I'm about to rip into the floor to install an Espar D2. I'm not sure what is under the carpet. Does SMB put a plywood floor down? or other insulation? I'm wondering how far down I need to go to get to sheetmetal. TIA
Steve
In my 95 SMB they had only plywood and then carpet. I couldn't believe the floor had no more insulation. Sorry I can't answer for your 06 but I would sure hope there is a layer of some sort of insulation there as well.
Can you open up the rear doors and pull the trim piece/threshold that runs across? It should give you a good view of what's stacked up from the sheet metal there.

SMB builds as cheap as possible for warm weather use. 1/2 inch plywood on the steel floor is a thermal break and has an R rating of 0.62. Good enough. The upper walls are canvas in most cases. Did you expect more?

You are going to need sheepskin slippers to stand on the floor in winter, guaranteed.

Sportsmobile will build however you want it. I had them put engine driven rear heat/ac and insulation in the floor with the hot pipes from the engine going down the middle of the floor. My floor is nice and warm when I step down with my bare feet.
Now if I can only find a way to do "auto start on hi/lo temp" with my Promaster.
