"Valve of Mystery" for toilet in 2011 SMB Sprinter

Does anyone know what the purpose is for this valve on the side of the marine toilet in my 2011 Sprinter SMB RB110S? I'm guessing that it might control the amount of water that each pump/flush cycle creates, but that's just guessing.

Could it be as simple as a water shut-off so that if the toilet has a problem, you can turn the water off to it? Try closing the valve and seeing if the toilet has water.

Yup. Looks like the same "builders grade" push-to-close valve in most new homes.

Yes a shut off valve...mine is the silver/metal kind you find in your home...After Ive blown out toilet line. I close that and then shower, then sink, then outside shower...

Got access to the van and confirmed that it controls the flushing water input into the marine toilet.

That is there for one purpose. If the unthinkable happens and you experience freezing temps with water in the lines, the toilet valve will crack. If you then pressurize the water system, you will have a constant leak from the now broken valve. Replacing the valve is a major pain which requires removing the throne. If you need to use the van until it can be fixed, you simply shut off the valve. Then you can use the rest of the water system without feeding the leak. You can even use the toilet by flushing it with a small bucket of water.
