I was shopping SMB West online and dropped two items into my cart, bug screen and an Econoline Aluminess ladder. Shipping was over $200. Seeing this I canceled the ladder and my shipping dropped down to $15. Called Aluminess today to get the same ladder and they quoted me $50 to ship. SMB West is 300 miles closer than Aluminess. What gives?
I've worked in shipping for 25 years and I can't explain it to you except to say that SMB must have a lousy contract worked out with Fedex/UPS/whoever. Aluminess obviously has a better one. Your ladder will mostly likely come UPS or possibly Fedex Ground for those prices, which is exactly what I would choose. I have no loyalty. I shop for price on shipping much more than speed. My one or two experiences with the SMB store have taught me that they really don't seem to want to sell things.

Maybe that's why they price many items at twice what you can get them for from Amazon.
