Can you tell if its a "gel-coat" top or more like a rhino liner top ? Try hydrogen peroxide straight if get-coat - its pretty safe - you can but 13% hydrogen peroxide on Amazon too - and then move...

Replaced mine with a combo CO2/Propane black one - and cut a back plate from carbon fiber sheet to cover the hole which was just a bit larger than the overall dimensions of the detector - looks great...

That's my suggestion - scuff it up with 80-120 grit sandpaper - mask it off and hit it with a flat black Rustoleum or for plastic appropriate spray paint -
