Yes definitely one of those "IMO's" but a semi float is not a good choice on a fully decked out SMB. Mine was trashed at 58k miles. I heard a groaning and noticed odd wear on the inside of my rear tires. I jacked up the van and holy S***, I could get almost on inch of play in the axle.
Heavy vehicle, rough roads, offset wheels, spacers and larger tires. The semi float rear end will fail prematurely.
I'm swapping in a Sterling full floater into my new to me van as soon as I'm able.

Where you finding this axle? I've been on the "list" at two local gear shops for ff d60 for 3 months. I'm ready to regear and lock!

We have FF D60's available with many gear and locker combinations.

Put the spacers nuts back on loose with the tire lugs mounted loose and drop the trolley jack. Energy from truck will pop the spacer from the hub. You guys aren't dealing with corrosion on every surface every day are you? Must be nice! Level of "looseness" may vary though...

Kinda catch 22. The Sterling is metric and the bolt pattern won't match what is on most of our vans. Unless you did a Ujoint conversion where the front axle is typically a dana 60 from the F series. If you source a FF D60 from a van you have the same 8x6.5 wheel lug pattern but will most likely need the same wheel spacers that are on the semi-floater.
A FF D60 from a van is pretty much plug and play except for maybe moving the shock mounts. Spring perches should be the same. Depending on model year the brakes will swap over as well. I believe a Sterling requires a bit more modification.
The cat's meaow seems to be a D70. Then you have close to or slightly wider WMS-WMS without having to use wheels spacers. Not sure which is better for lockers and such. Maybe more options for the D70 and Sterling? D60 pumpkin is kinda small.

I may have spoke too soon. I picked up 6 a little while ago but John has been selling and installing them - I will see what is available tomorrow. Time to get some more...

Hey you highjackers, not that I want to change the subject from axles to what it was originally... ;-)
But here's a quick update on the wheel spacers...
I had to grind off around 3/16" to fit the spacers on, other than that everything went A1.
