Another year, ...
Another year, another scramble to get a Summer trip set up.
Was hoping to get some boondocking recommendations for the area around Silverton, CO. Looking to spend 3-5 nights in the area, in a spot accessible by a stock suspension 4wd towing a trailer.
Will then likely add a few nights in Mesa Verde National Park and/or the Santa Fe area.
thanks in advance,
Herb

It's been years and years.....but there is a large meadow that folks remote camp near the Hermosa creek trailhead. If my memory is correct, you climb up a fire road at Purgatory ski area to get there......it's been awhile..

I don't think you will get up Stoney Pass with a trailer or at least not very far. You can get up to the split to Highland Mary Lakes like that but that's really it. There is an area just upstream from that with open parking for RVs and a pit toilet back across the road.
Ditto on the FSR out to the west of Purgatory but on weekends it gets kind of busy back there. Some good spots further up the road a bit once it heads north but only a few good sites.
The BLM/FS put in some first come first served boonie sites up Mineral Creek. I think there are 3 group areas and there ain't much there other than pit toilets. If you don't mind camping with a lot of RVs around, it works well and is pretty close to Silverton.
For Mesa Verde, not sure where you would go other than north of Mancos on West Mancos Road but that would put you in FS stuff (which is very nice up there) but not very close to MV. I like camping up off FS560 and 529 top area of Chicken Creek.

Anyone have boondocking recommendations near Mesa Verde N.P.? I'm trying to avoid the campground city there if possible.
I came across one for the coordinates below near the entrance to the Park.
GPS: 37.359908, -108.428192

Can't help you on Mesa Verde but I'm real curious to hear what you learn. Hovenweep is a cool area, don't remember if it has a campground, no boondocking that I remember.
As for Silverton and area there is a ton of good boondocking along the highway between there and Ouray. Kristie and I even got the motorhome to a few good spots that were off the beaten path near there. For a real treat just a bit further go over Owl Creek Pass north of Ouray and check out the Silver Jack Reservoir area. There are a couple FS campgrounds there but they are so good it's hard to believe.

B-Hauler! I am SURPRISED you don't have the "Ultimate Campground" app for US & Canada!? A SMB forum member had written about it and I checked it out and IMMEDIATELY downloaded it on phone and laptop...we just got back from a IA-AZ-IA loop and found it to be the one of the BEST accessories we've bought for Sporty! We found/stayed at quite a few CG's/areas that were not listed but found on the app...It shows BLM, all parks, and private campgrounds....can be customized in settings to show only certain camps ie. "boat in" or "BLM"...we looked ahead to see CG's/areas as we traveled...it is well worth the $ (2.99/4.99 one or both on special)....
Ps Scotty, I guess I didn't know you were running in a Transit! I will have to look at your pics!

OK, I know that app's been talked about, but you just talked me into popping on it. My first impressions are very positive.

Try this I haven't used this location but it was recommended by a friend. Marcos, CO
GPS 37.359908, -108.428192 elevation 6664' there are 6 to 12 campsites at this location. It's BLM land & free 14 day limit. Higher spots are the most popular but I hear spot 7 is great & has a view. They got this info off of freecampsites dot com & passed it one to me a few years ago. [emoji106]
