Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Mac,
Good luck to you on your scan.

Chris,
Cheryl agrees completely, we all need our heads examined.
When going through Bakersfield I always take 58 from I-5. I fuel up there. Can usually find good prices on fuel on the west side of Bakersfield.

Woody

I'm going to try and get up to the geologist's cabin on Friday. Spend some time exploring on foot.

By the way, Coming from the bay area down I-5 does anyone have a secret place they like to cross over to 99 around Bakersfield? I always cut over through Arvin when I'm headed to Mojave but since I will be taking 178 out of Bakersfield I was wondering about how to avoid all of the stop lights in the Bakersfield suburbs. Is 58 a clear shot across from I-5?
Chris
Great Question
I have yet to find a decent way.

How do you get by Los Banos? My SMB has a built in homing chip that always wants to turn east at Los Banos and head to Fresno. Last time I managed to jam the device and head on down I-5. I turned east on Hwy 46 at Lost Hills. Not too many lights but it was slow going behind farm trucks. 198 through Hanford is about the same.

HUH?
Its a freeway East of 99 (Central Bakersfield) but a surface street as a connecter between I-5 and 99.
Here is a screen shot from Google Maps

I always come down 99 - I really don't like I-5.

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

If you are traveling south on I-5, the exit next after Highway 58 is Stockdale Highway which might not have quite as much agricultural traffic as Highway 58 and becomes a four-lane highway once it reaches Bakersfield. Just before you reach Highway 99 on Stockdale Highway, there will be a guide sign telling you to turn right to reach Highway 178. Turn right and go one block to get directly on Highway 178 freeway east. (None of these freeways existed when I was growing up in Bakersfield.)

Re: Goler Wash/Barker Ranch/DV Spring 12

Does anyone have a good rendezvous spot at the Pinnacles? I can't tell from the pics I've looked at just what the lay of the land is. Since we will all be arriving at different times and some in the dark possibly how should we set this up? Any suggestions Daveb? You have been there.

The road that leads to the Pinnacles is a loop. I shouldn't be hard to find eachother as long as we agree to stay in that area.
