Where to park the SMB in Zion??

Im heading to Jackson Hole in a month from San Diego. The halfway point is Zion. Can anyone tell me a good spot to park and camp for a night or two? Maybe a place with some hiking I can take my wife and infant son.. Thanks

A quick Google on boondocking near Zion shows BLM land around, we've seen Youtubers camped there. It might be raining or snowing at the moment but the weather will be significantly warmer in a month. Bryce is higher elevation, both parks are extremely busy and that is the only hiking I know about. I'm a wimp in hot weather so try to avoid the hot places.

The park itself has a nice semi-primitive campground behind the main visitor center. It's pretty nice.

I go there quite often. My secret spot is right out of Rockville, up the road to Smithsonian Butte. Take Bridge Street and follow it a little ways, staying left at the split to Grafton. It will start to climb and just there are some turnoffs with wonderful views. The road is dirt with a few ruts, but very doable in 2wd. You can see my SMB parked and some other places to do the same. Don't tell anyone I sent you there.

I've made it twice to Gooseberry Mesa to camp and mountain bike. This looks to be in the same general area, am I right?

Yes you are. This is one end of the road that goes to Gooseberry and then comes out just south of Hurricane.

Zion Mesa is an alternative to Gooseberry. On the other side of the canyon. But be sure to keep this just between us.

There is a nice campground off the beaten path in Zion at Lava Point.
