Re: another fender vent install

Well jwintersteller, I sure appreciate all your info here. Just finished my install of the vents. Love the look of them. All your info was right on and the project went without a hitch (except for tripping my impact switch, see another post here....).
Thanks for taking the time to line it all out.

Hey scatter, I'm very happy it all worked out for you. I had also tripped the impact switch, sorry I didn't mention that. Are you going to post some pics?

Re: another fender vent install

I don't think there's any reason for me to post pics. I've even got the same color van as yours so they would look identical.

I did run a very scientific test today to see how well the vents worked. I ran the van till it was hot and while going down the road at 55mph had my wife lean out, OK WAY out, the window and feel the vent. She said she didn't feel any warm air. After I stopped, I felt the vent and didn't get any warm air coming out either. So, me thinks it's just a bitchin looking mod without much real benefit. Don't forget, I did not enlarge the inner fender as did jwintersteller.

I would do it again just for the looks. Besides, it now goes faster on less fuel too....

Re: another fender vent install

Hey all,
I just wanted to give a quick up-date on the performance of these vents. Some of you had ask if I could tell if they made a difference. I had installed these in the winter and until recently have only been driving around in cold weather. Last week we went to Anza-Borrego and drove up coyote canyon and a few others. The temps were well into the 90s and there are a few steep section on these trails. So this was the first time I had a chance to really see if these vent would be helpful. I do not have any sophisticated engine or fluid temp reading devices so all I'm going on is how much hot air is flowing out of these vent. I am happy to say, a lot! When the heat builds up and the fan clutch kicks in, it really gives the air somewhere to go. I would think that there must be a bit more air passing through the radiator because of this.
