A bit pricey, but after having 6+ different racks.....it is the best in many ways. The workaround is a great idea!

I use plastic (ABS?) carpenter shims. They work great!

On my Fiesta which has a 1.25" receiver, I discovered Unistrut/Superstrut beam-adapters are a perfect clamp for hitches. I'm pretty sure a beam adapter for double-strut will be perfect for full-size receivers.
