Re: Reversing camera - where to run cable in EB50

Up high allows me to see the full trailer when towing, works as a rearview mirror, and goes up with the PH for campground security cam. As a bonus in the high position I can avoid backing into things up high- tree branch, top of the garage- unplanned but probably the most useful aspect and I'd rather crack something with the Aluminess than the PH.

Re: Reversing camera - where to run cable in EB50

I don't have a EB50, but I mounted mine high on the Penthouse just below the brake light.

The cable for the camera run along with the brake light cable and I actually ran it through the metal roof using the same hole that SMB used for the brake wire.

I then removed the side trim panel and mounted the cable behind it, that piece comes off pretty easy.
There is plenty of room behind that. I actually was able to fish some cables for the carputer under the headliner and they come out by the visor mount.

Hope this helps

Yes, running it up high. Looks like two votes for right (one in PH), one for left.

I'm actually trying to avoid the PH, thinking more like jage's exit out of the old high mount brake light....

It might be easier to run it outside then. There are a few holes in the drivers side step you can use, then run along the frame rail and if you remove the rear tail light you can see where you can feed it back in the body by the bumper, and up to the rear brake light.
I ran mine along the drivers side step, (under the plastic), and up the B pillar, then along and into the back. B pillar has a lot of other taps you may need, like reverse light.

Re: Reversing camera - where to run cable in EB50

I'm in the process of adding a new stereo headunit (Kenwood DVD unit) to my van, and pre-wiring for a backup camera. I had a bunch of coax cable laying around, so I decided to use that for both the backup camera lead and a video-out lead that will eventually go to a LCD TV in the back.

Besides being cheap (since I had it), I figured the coax would be easier to pull/fish, have less signal loss, and be weatherproof, too, if I decide to run outside under the van. For connections I'm simply using adapters from radio shack that adapt the F-plug to an RCA plug.

I'm still trying to decide between mounting the camera up top vs. in the license plate area. I'm a bit reticent to drill into the PH top to mount up high, though.

Re: Reversing camera - where to run cable in EB50

FWIW, I decided on a license plate camera. My thinking was that a high camera would give a better overall view, but would not give me a clear view of whatever I was about to back into.

My thinking was the the bike/ski rack, spare tire, and anything else hanging off the back would block the view. So, I have a license-plate mounted camera. I adjusted the camera so that the bottom edge of the display matched up with a plumb line dropped from the rear edge of my galley box (the item that protrudes the most). I use that bottom edge of the display to guess when I'm going to hit something.
