Everything, linkage, actuators etc.are inside the slider so they are protected from obstacles, salt and dirt. Ingenious design.

NICE!

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Steve sent me some pictures showing the fabrication of the prototypes for Lance's rig:

He says he'll determine what he needs down to start the fabrication of ten sets this week.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Just came across this thread. I'm interested. The problem is I don't really want to have them installed until the weather cools a bit say late October.

Oh, I don't mind pre paying to a trustworthy business. BTW, they have to handle a 400 lb guy!

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

I'm also gravitationally challenged and Steve tells me it's not a problem:

That isn't me, I'm more the George Clooney type.

Steve's making ten sets, so there will be plenty to go around when you're ready.

He has a new website up BTW: http://www.rockslideengineering.com/

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

How do you repair/replace if they're built into the sliders?

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

The sliders are bolted on. Easy to remove.

Didn't see the fab pictures before, that's pretty cool.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Stopped by Rockslide today to take some pictures. They were assembling a set for a JK so I got to see the inner workings. As you can see, the mechanism is totally internal:

And the mechanism is outrageously beafy --that's 1/2" steel used for the step brackets and the sliders are 3/16":

And here is the shot of the underside:

Notice the optional light that turns on when the door is opened. The SMB versions mount differently, but as you can see, everything is very protected.

Steve is waiting for the machine shop to finish their bid, so we can determine the deposit.
