Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Here's some pics with the steps retracted. Unfortunately, I didn't get any still pics with the steps down. You'll have to see the videos or maybe Bill can post when he gets a chance.
Thanks again Bill!

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

These look great!!

Think I will be ordering a pair. Anyone know what a self install would be like?

Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Per Bill, it would be a good idea to have Rock Slide do the install. Not a simple DIY...

Road trip then....

Wish this all had happened a couple weeks earlier. I was up in Salt Lake last week and would have just driven up the extra mileage.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

They might look a little unfinished on a van w/o fender flares.

The faster action is quite nice, as is the safety stop! Nice video, thanks.

Steve asked about that. As a gravitationally challenged person, I wasn't so sure, but don't hesitate to suggest it to him: sales@rockslideengineering.com . It would save mucho dinero without the steps.

Re: Rock Slide Retractable Steps

Romeo,

Thanks for posting the pics and videos. I finally arrived back in Hawaii last night after a long six weeks on the mainland. Sure is nice to be back home!! Perfect weather and whales are everywhere. I dropped the van off at Horizon Lines in Long Beach Friday. Its scheduled to arrive here January 30th. I'll try to get some more pics posted then of the sliders and the other work that I had done while on the mainland.

As for a self installation, I would strongly advise against it. The bolt on part would be straightforward, but the wiring is a bit complex and each step needs to be adjusted according to the nuances of each individual van body because the tolerances are so tight. Besides, after paying $2400 for a set of these, for me paying $400 for the install was worth avoiding the headache.

Rock Slide Retractable Steps

The wiring shouldn't be bad as the harness is self contained and only requires battery and ground. The magnetic door switches are totally separate from the van's.

When installing the nutserts for the sliders, however, one should use a professional nutsert inserterererer. Don't want them pulling out.
