Re: The Door Talon Rocks!

I totally agree, this is the best $35 you can spend on your van period! Thanks John!

I'll take one. John will you bring some to the So Cal meet?

You'll be sure to sell a few there.

Yeah, I can bring a few. I'll even bring the tools needed to do the install.

See you there,
John

Any fixes for keeping the rear Aluminess swinging tire rack and galley box open?

Not from me but have you seen what Mike has done? That looks very clean. Maybe he will start selling them.

Fabricated the stop from a piece of scrap I had.

3/4" thick was perfect for this application

Pin locks the spare in the open position

Re: The Door Talon Rocks!

Thanks John, but I'm not really interested in selling these. It was just something I made one afternoon. No measurements, I just eyeballed and cut and drilled. And I have no idea what would fit on an Aluminess bumper - that most SMBs have - as you can see, I have an Aluminess spare carrier for a stock bumper.

It is just a piece of 1.5" x .75" MDS filled Nylon 6/6 that I had laying around from on old job. Almost any rigid material would work, I used this one because it was nearly black.

The only real trick to making it is getting the holes lined up. I did that by drilling the plastic piece first, then C-clamping it to the top of the arm and drilling through it and the aluminum arm. When that was done and it is bolted on, drill through again to locate the stop hole.

I think most anyone could make this stop. Materials are available from McMaster-Carr as is the tethered quick release pin.

Re: The Door Talon Rocks!

Loving my Door Talon! Installed it a few weeks ago and it was very easy to do. My driveway is slanted and I always had to use a bungie to hold the barn door open when working on the van. No longer!

The Door Talon is no longer for sale at SMB Store. Does anyone know where I can get one?
