Re: NATO surplus fuel cans

If anyone sees Scepter colored cans available, please let me know. We got 5 before they stopped selling to the public, but would like to add some variety and flexibility.

Just the expensive ones (~$80 each) on eBay, for used ones.

If I could find them locally (avoid shipping) I'd like 4-5 tan MWCs (Military Water Cans) and 2-3 black MWCs which are great for hot water when you have no power/heat (just set them in direct sunlight for 4-6 hours).

Herb,

If you are looking for tan or sand color cans, you might check your local gun shows. I was surprised recently at a couple of shows to see piles of tan scepter cans for sale.

Good idea. From what I've seen online, there's now a second manufacturer of the same cans that Scepter makes. Seems people are willing to pay more for the Scepter ones though. There's a Ventura County gun show coming up, so I may take a look.

Re: NATO surplus fuel cans

Looks like eBay has Tan, Olive and Black cans.... some water and some fuel....

We are really looking for blue water cans, and yellow and red fuel cans.

We will hold out a while. but we may have to settle...

Re: NATO surplus fuel cans

Yeah, I've rarely seen the blue ones, and I've never seen red or yellow one.

The closest I've seen to a yellow one is a tan one with a yellow strap to indicate diesel.

From what I read on one person's (eBay?) site, the Scepter water cans have one handle, and the Scepter fuel cans have three handles, so you can tell the difference in the dark.

Re: NATO surplus fuel cans

Yes, the water cans have only one handle (instead of three). The lid is also a little different; it has a secondary opening for pouring as well as an adjustable vent.

We have two blue water cans, two yellow cans (we use for diesel) and one red can (we use for gasoline). We purchased all these directly from Scepter prior to their move to only sell to military.

The water cans are also SLIGHTY different dimensions. It is so slight that in most applications it would not be noticeable. It was only noticeable for use because of the custom box that Aluminess was building for us; when the added their new flange seal it changed the size of the opening to where we initially had a hard time getting three cans into the box. Some quick SMB TX modifications and we had a solution that kept the flange in play.

Re: NATO surplus fuel cans

Hi Guys,

I don't know if this is helpful, but I found a great deal on the NATO plastic water cans. $17/each, with free shipping on orders over $50. I feel a little bad about their free shipping, since I bought twelve of these for Burning Man and they delivered them on a palate with a lift gate truck, which must have cost them a fortune. I was worried they wouldn't send them, since when I ordered them I didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks, when the freight company called out of the blue to setup a delivery time.

Here's the source: http://www.buylci.com
Click 'Shop Now' in the upper right hand corner
Then type 'Water Cans' into the search box

You have to click around to find the way to order without an account and pay by credit card.

"Property of the US Government" is stamped on them, so I am keeping the receipt in case anyone gives me shit .
