Potty Cleaner
I am not satisfied with the cleaner we have been using to clean the potty bowl. There is still a slight odor left after cleaning. What are you all using and how well does it work?

larrie - are you asking about actually cleaning the bowl, or tank? Or the chemical used in the holding tank?
We have been in our rig everyday/night for nearly the last three months straight and using our Thetford 365 a lot of the time. We get about five days before needing to dump. After dumping the holding tank I rinse the holding tank with only fresh water about three or four times. I then add a bit of water and the Blue Aqua MAX (formaldehyde free) stuff (make sure to shake it up well before adding to the holding tank).
I will spray and wipe down the bowl and rest of unit with a lemon scented anti-bacterial spray. I am careful about getting it into the holding tank as the anti bacterial can interfere with the organic blue stuff.
Not super happy w the Blue Stuff and we will be looking for something else.

Hi Larrie. One thing to check is your toilet's lip seal. If the lip seal is allowing gases to escape, the bowl will get smelly even if you keep it clean. I noticed this with our last Thetford Curve. Leaving the lid down just traps those bad odors inside the bowl and makes it impossible to get rid of them. Our last Curve finally failed when the pressure release valve broke, so we got a new one to replace it. (The newest generation has a much more powerful flush, just fyi) I noticed that the new one doesn't have the same odor issues and that makes sense with it having a brand new lip seal. I bought an extra seal to keep on hand. I think it's best to replace it as soon as you notice any extra smell coming from the bowl. Of course, you can also treat the seal with chemicals to help it last longer. We also use Aqua-Kem tank fluid and it seems to be the best at keeping odors in check.

I am talking about cleaning the bowl. The tank is not the problem. I use the Camco TST MAX individual bottles. They seem to work well with just liquids. I will check the seal.

I do not like the smell of anything made for a camper toilet. I prefer Pine Sol. Fabuloso smells good too and works well. However, we typically keep it to small jobs in our porta-potties. If it gets used otherwise I typically clean it out pretty soon.

My delightful wife does not like the smell of Pine Sol so that is out. I tried disinfecting wipes, we have a lot left over, and they seemed to work well.

My full time RVer cousin simply fills the bowl with Rid-X liquid (NOT the RV stuff that has a bunch of perfume, just the high-strength home stuff) and lets it sit for a while. The enzymes and bacteria attack the stain, then you flush.

To get rid of stubborn odors/bacteria, use chlorine. 50/50 real Clorox bleach will kill everything. Shake it up in the tank to kill the slime around the valves.
Just don't get it on anything you don't want bleached...
