Okay this story rocks. Funniest thing I heard all day.
My van didn't come with any jack or rod. Mormon or otherwise. I have a 20 ton bottle jack that I welded a V onto the top so it could lift from the axle. My rod is a 16" long modified 1/2' socket extension whittled down on the end to coincide with the factory spare tire hoist. I just use a socket wrench or a cordless drill with socket attachment to raise and lower the spare underneath. My tires are only 30" so the spare still fits below. I do keep a couple of leveling 2x6s just in case though.
