WHAT IS THE BEST CB RADIO and ANTENNA TO BUY?

Fwiw I got the old realistic trc-474 cb radio hooked up. The antenna that came with it was junk so I was planning on getting the Wilson 1000 and went to coast electronics in morro bay and they would have had to order. So I opted to what the guy said would be sturdy and easy to tune. And for just under the cost plus shipping of the wilson I got a 5" firestik magnet mount, firestik spring, and black 3' tunable firestik antenna. My
My what a difference.

You may want to check the flex of that antenna, especially with a spring base. Some good washboard roads, and that antenna looks like it could easily whip towards the rear, and it looks like you have a solar panel mounted where it could impact and ruin your day.

Herb
If the panel is a week old it only makes you laugh

Re: WHAT IS THE BEST CB RADIO and ANTENNA TO BUY?

Grew up in a truck driving family, (livestock, heavy equipment, low boys).

Many driver placed two antennas, one on each side of the truck, front bumper, side mirrors, etc. This allowed for longer lobes of radiation to travel forward and back of the trucks extending the reach. Each antenna acted as a counter poise to the other. Single antenna config, or omni-directional antennas radiated 360, and in a reach dictated by terrain.

The former has longer highway reach but limited Left/Right reach.

Re: WHAT IS THE BEST CB RADIO and ANTENNA TO BUY?

I decided my CB isn't doing what I expected for communication, so I'm getting my Technician Class ham license in a couple of weeks. Then I plan on installing equipment so my SMB looks like this:

Re: WHAT IS THE BEST CB RADIO and ANTENNA TO BUY?

Hi;

Do the doors open or do they load the driver in through a roof hatch?

Regards,

Gavin
