Re: Front seat child bed
I did the same thing in my Chevy 3500. However I did not have to add the 2 x 2s, the board fit in flat. I didn't add foam but instead got a small backpacking mattress from REI. In my configuration the board stands up behind the drivers seat and the mattress takes up little room in the front overhead storage. Add a sleeping bag that crushes to almost nothing and you have one happy kid. I know that most of you seem to have the penthouse so you have less storage opportunities than I but this seemed to take the least room plus giving more options on where to store stuff. The mattress and sleeping bag can go most anywhere, it's the board that's the problem.

Re: Front seat child bed
Any update with your project?
I found a picture on the forum here of one made for a dog, but now I can't find it anymore.
Good luck!

Nicely done. I like the storage solution you came up with.

Agreed. I'm curious how it is supported? Is it built sturdy enough to just rest on the armrests or is there a structure under it? I am going to experiment with this soon but I don't want to lose emergency use of the front doors, so I'm thinking of letting it rest on the armrests but if I needed to open a door (from inside or outside) it would stay put somehow, preferably without one of my kids hitting the floor.

Nicely done!
I like how you used surf racks to hold it together.

Nancy at Sportsmobile Indiana got back to me via email but they do not sell or have/give any information. They will custom build one for you only.... The other 2 Sportsmobile locations have not returned emails...

Fresno location will make one for me while I wait for $439 but they have to have the van there... no pattern available, just custom. Waiting to hear back from Austin, TX. location...
