Re: Short time lurker with questions

Yes, that rear door configuration makes it harder to attach a tire to the door. This weekend I'm going to remove the rear bumper to see if I can fabricate something. Maybe come directly off the rear frame rails, and through the stock rear bumper. Maybe-------

Have a look at Roadtrek's system, they seem to use a sort of hitch receiver which might be placed on the frame rail... seems off center to the LH rear door...

I found this too...

Hmmm, the Norris may have some possibilities. I wouldn't be able to use it as shown with the receiver extension because I still want to be able to tow my camper, but I believe the concept could be adapted to something that would work for me. It certainly gets the creative juices flowing. I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks for the link saabman.

Re: Short time lurker with questions

Ok, next step, sound dampening. I bought 100 square feet of aluminum/butyl sound dampener on ebay. My gosh is that stuff heavy. The first 50 sq. ft. roll covered the passenger side and almost all of the drivers side. The second roll finished the drivers side, a little bit of the roof and both rear doors. I think I went overboard on the rear doors, applying the mat to everything I could get to on the inner side of the outer door skin. Then fiberglass insulation and finally another coat of sound mat on the inner part of the door. Now when I close the rear door there is more of a "thunk" rather than the cheap loose sheet metal sound it had before. You can tell you are swinging more mass now. I need to buy another 50 square foot roll to finish the ceiling and side doors.
I'm going to really kick it the next few days, as I plan on using it next Thursday when I go back to work on nights. I figure sleeping in the van during the day should be warmer with temps in the 30's and a good test of the insulation already installed as well as where I need to improve.

Should have the floor insulated and plywood floor down. The roll over sofa should arrive early next week. I bought 8 sheets of 1/2" aluminum faced foam board. Hope to get the rear auxilliary heater plumbed in.

Still to come .... I ordered a frame mount propane tank to supply the 12,000 btu furnace and bought a fantastic fan and a 30 amp ac distribution box with integral 45 amp converter and 12 volt distribution panel.

Re: Short time lurker with questions

Do you like the quality of the Rollover Couch Sleeper Fold Out Sport Bed you bought. I was considering purchasing one but it's hard to spend that much money and not try it out. Is it comfortable?
