EGT and Tran Gauge Install

I finally got around to installing an exhaust gas temperature and transmission temperature gauge. I know that the best place to mount these things is right in your face on the A-pillar. But being vertically challenged, I didn't want to give-up the grab rail that I use every time I get in and out of the van. So I mounted them here.

I think it looks very stock and I can clearly see them while driving, thanks to that dip in the steering wheel airbag / horn unit.

The gauges came with those ring / collar that I had to slightly modify to get the angle and contour right. Her is where I got them; http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/Black-7- ... Gauge.aspx
Drove out to Utah and on the way the outside temp got up to 109, my EGTs never went over 800 and mostly stayed around 600 to 700. The tran never went over 200 and stayed mostly around 180. That's good, right?
I'm going to by installing a 4" turbo back exhaust in the next few week so it will be interesting to see what difference that will make.

Cheers,
John

Oooh...

I like that that location and the mounting bezels! I'm out of pillar pod space. I need to add a Tach, and will probably upgrade to a VIAIR setup with supply tank gauge at some point.

Don't know if this mount will fit on a van or not, especially with the SMB overhead storage unit, but I really like the location of my gauge mount in my Excursion. In my sight line with a quick glance, and it also does a good job blocking the evening sun that always seems to be just above the rear view mirror where the visors can't get to.

Re: EGT and Tran Gauge Install

Thanks all,
Herb, I did consider that location but the sun visors would have gotten in the way.

carringb, sounds like you have a lot of gauges! I have some catching up to do.

Cheers,
John

I put mine where Herbs are:

They are made by auto meter and have several color schemes but turn red when they reach a danger limit.

Very nice! Yep, Dash mounting space is very limited and strange on Ford vans, especially the newer ones with the rounder dashes. It's like Ford took a huge space and said How can we lay things out where they can't add ANYTHING?!!!!!
