New shocks for 2WD E250

hi,
i need new shocks for my 2004 RB E250 hi-top conversion van (not a sportsmobile, just a regular 2wd van) . i'm about to take a 10k road trip. the wildest the thing the van would see are the dirt roads of big bend NP. i'm also a bit on a budget so probably no foxes or anything like that. the van will weigh between 6500lbs and 7000lbs. no lift, just some 235/85/16's. what would you guys recommend. bilstein? if so, anyone has the part numbers for them?

thank you very much!

new shocks for 2WD E250

We put Bilsteins on our 2WD 98 E250 last year and they worked great on our 8000 mile road trip last summer. I think I got them from eshocks.com. Great pricing and fast shipping. Best to let whichever vendor you use tell you the model number to avoid any compatibility issues.

+1 for eShocks.com

I got Bilsteins for a 2WD van from them a few years ago, but you might just want to compare their price with the Fox shocks that Ramsey gets. You may not need them but they are probably about the same price and they sure do ride great.

Add me to the list of fans for eShocks.com!

For the past 6-7 years (??) they've been the only site I even check for Bilstein's these days.

While there might be shocks nearly as good as Bilstein for normal driving it's too much work and cost to experiment changing them for what's "best".

thanks guys!
eshocks looks great. so there are the "heavy duty" and the "comfort" ones.
i guess comfort ride is the way to go for me, right?

Personally I'd opt for the heavy duty because they won't impart a hard as a rock ride to your conversion van. The "comfort" name brings up images of a mushy floating sort of road feel, not something I prefer when pushing one of these billboards down the highway.

I do believe Bilstein has a ride satisfaction guarantee that allows you to exchange one valving for another if you're not satisfied. Please confirm that with Bilstein though, get their comments first.

Re: new shocks for 2WD E250

thanks JWA,
i sure don't want a mushy floating sort of road feel. my thought was that some of you have a 10.000lbs rig and run with the bilstein heavy duty, right? so if i'm "only" at around 7000lbs, i might take something that is valved a bit smoother.
"ride satisfaction guarantee" would be nice. i'll check what bilstein has to say about that.

Re: new shocks for 2WD E250

put my order for the set of heavy duty shocks in at eShocks yesterday. today they told me bilsteins are backordered till june.
now what? i definitely can't wait till then.
@ 86Scotty, what are these "Fox shocks that Ramsey gets"?
anyone else has an idea where i can get decent shocks now while staying under $400 for the set?
thanks!

What about the "comfort" ones, I think I have those on my rig, and it's a heavy beast. I think I was told the "HD" ones ride is a little harsh. Check with another vendor, 4wheelparts? Or amazon
