The LSD situation can feel like a front end issue for sure and you'll (well I did) swear it's coming from up front when it's not. Seems like after a diff oil change I always have to go back and add more friction additive. That said true rubbing in the front is often different in feeling...at least how I've felt it. If you can feel the tread nubs rubbing, varying the speed will usually correlate to the rubbing and you'll know. But how the van leans in a turn might be different at different speeds.

^^^ interesting. finding out i have a lsd would be cool....guess i better look into that option and figure out if i do or not.

The first time I encountered this was way back when it was new after SMB did a diff oil change. Seemed like the only time I really felt it was making a turn while climbing an overpass. They couldn't replicate the problem and I took Heber for a ride. After I got it to chatter he got a smile on his face and said it might be coming from the rear. I still didn't believe it. He was right and all was well after they put more additive.
I have had rubbing though, especially since I went to 315's and if I pull the sway bar disconnects, it can be fairly obvious. Like I said it is a different feel. Even ripped up my front passenger bushwacker

Now I really heard that one!

I am going to run by the dealer in Vegas on Friday and get some put in. Should I have them change out the old fluid?

See my recent thread about LSD fluid. I really thought the noise was from the front, but it was the LSD.

OK, just a thought (or maybe a WAG offered in the spirit of trying to help).

Could the rubbing be from scuffing of your front tires on the pavement? Do you have ESOF front locking hubs? I drove my van inadvertently with the front hubs engaged for a year. The 4x4 converter had installed ESOF hubs at my request (in return for my payment) but instead of using the oem electric modulated vacuum pump (big vacuum to engage them, less vacuum to keep them engaged), he just hooked the ESOF up to the unmodulated nearly infinitely variable, way too strong, serpentine belt-driven brake vacuum pump. (You have a diesel, so you have a vacuum pump.) Well over time, the pump sucked the hubs inward to the permanent locked position, breaking off the little plastic tabs (Ford 2007 ESOF hubs) that hold the hubs in the unlocked position, such that even when I manually turned the hubs back out to unlocked position, they were in fact still engaged.

Just for giggles, you may want to unlock your hubs and have someone drive your van forward or back a foot or two while you watch to see if the transfer case driveshaft to the front differential spins. If it does, your hubs are, in fact, engaged.

Got to love this site. Stopped at Ford Country in Henderson NV on my way back from Vegas. For $30 they added the friction reducer and topped off diff fluid. It seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all the help.

You have limited slip in your front differential?

No it was the rear, it just feels like the front because you feel the nibbling as you turn and move off.

I think I diagnosed that pretty well.
