Re: All my screws are pulling loose!

The RV industry is notorious for poor interior quality. It is amazing that some of these joints last as long as they do on a twisting, bouncing moving vehicle.

something to think about.
The Sportsmobile's I've seen use MDF not particleboard.

Some info on glues and MDF.

Bear in mind that you want to glue a metal fitting into MDF.

Re: All my screws are pulling loose!

As I have previously posted , the use of a water proof Flexible Adhesive will serve you even better than the standard water based wood glues that are designed as a means of pressure adhesion . try using any of the Goop products for Screw's , fasteners and L Bracket's . Simply add small dollop of Goop to the screw or fastener that you have removed with a hand driven Screwdriver and replace . In the event that the hole is blown out simply go to the next size larger screw . The other preventive measure is to periodically get in your Vans with some Screwdrivers and check , Goop and snug up any thing loose before it has an opportunity to blow out . MDf can be a useful material for some applications but I feel it falls short for the building of cabinets in an off road vehicles subjected to the vibrations that we subject them to .

Re: All my screws are pulling loose!

Geoff,

I have had a few screws on cabinet hinges strip out and I use an old carpentry technique to repair them. Here is the process. Get a piece of oak dowel, I usually use either 1/4 or 3/8". Drill out the stripped hole with the same size drill bit as the dowel you are using. Be careful not to drill all the way through the cabinet if the other side shows. Cut a short section of dowel and glue it into the hole. Once the glue has dried re-install the hinge. Oak is hard and you will need to drill a small pilot hole for the screw. It is very simple and will make a permanent repair.

I use the goop on screws that aren't stripped as a preventative measure. It seems to work well for this but hasn't worked for repaired screws that are stripped.

Cheers,
John
