Re: Removing Penthouse
Buffalo: I have a lot of details about shoulder screw mods in this thread if you are interested. They are spread around a few different pages.

Re: Removing Penthouse
Awesome! Thanks a lot!
I have read through there before. It's been a big help! It's hard to find all the top info when I am actually trying to use some of it!
I wish there was a subforum for pop tops!

Reviving old thread. Buffalo can you elaborate more on how you were able to remove the bars? I get all if it until I need to unbolt the lower swivel where the head is hidden under the frame. Mine are dom so hopefully no mushroom pounding in my future. Mine are bent pretty bad and seem like they will bend right back if I straighten them w/o reinforcement.

How do you get that bolt out without tearing the whole interior apart?

You can’t get that bolt out with getting to the head of it. You will have to pull out/down the interior. What’s underneath that location in your van?

There is all the ford trim from the passenger van. So from what you are saying that bolt is accessed from below? I was hoping that wasn't the case because it is all glued in from sportsmobile. I'll dig into it more once my shoulder bolts and spacers comes from Mcmaster that boywonder recommended. I thought perhaps that if the wood strip came off I might be able to get at it.

Also, not sure why I have 2 identities.... Last post showed bparker458 (which is me) my screen name is vandiesel. Never noticed that. Is there a merge function?

The wood strip is screwed into the top of the van, so nothing under there besides sheet metal. You have to access it from the inside underneath the headliner.

I got the bows out and the inserts would not fit inside. Making new bows from .083 1" chromoly. I hope this fixes this forever. On top of that this thing is getting the boywonder treatment. I may even make his gas strut liftovator 2000.
