Alternator advice
I am in the process of installing a Cummins 12 valve engine into a 1996 Ford Shuttle bus that I use as a car hauler. I need to fab alternator brackets and rewire so I have to choose an alternator. I have 3 choices: Dodge/Cummins Denso 120 amp, Ford 130 amp 3G, and a Leece-Neville 165 amp unit. Currently I have the Ford 3G on the 460 in the bus since the L-N had problems (turned out to be in improperly wired regulator but after installing a new internal regulator, the alternator is now in fine shape. The 3G probably puts out the most amps at low speeds which is a plus for the rear mounted A/C unit. I realize the Leece-Neville was installed in the ambulance-ready models so does that indicate their reliability and output?
